Warhammer the Musical

I’ve been the sound of Warhammer for over seven years.  It’s a crazy setting, truly distopic British science fiction at its best… or worst? Warhammer 40,000 is a tragic universe, with few genuine heroes.  It’s a world of collapse, where a once great society imploded and is best on all sides by foes across the galaxy seeking to destroy it.  It’s a GRIM world, a totalitarian civilization where everyone is in a permanent state of warfare.

So when the marketing team at Games Workshop told me they wanted to play a last minute April Fools joke of epic proportions, I immediately knew I HAD TO SCORE it.  They told me that they wanted to announce to their fans the launch of WARHAMMER THE MUSICAL.

“Would it be possible to write a bunch of broadway show tunes for this fake musical?  And can we get this completed within a month for April?”

It was such a fun and insane challenge I had to do it.  I decided that the funniest take on this would to be approach it like a 1980s piano pop/rock opera.  To write and record it as if it was 1987 and the composer they hired had never really heard of Warhammer and how messed up the universe was.   To create the most UPBEAT version of the most GRIM setting.

So I felt home to Los Angeles from England, and wrote five songs over the course of two days, then sent the charts over to my team.  We recorded it the same week.   I had an amazing team on this project, talented musicians and singers and technical staff who knew how to create what I affectionately call “The Most Authentic Fake Thing I’ve Ever Made”.

The fan reaction has been amazing.  Over a million views in a week, thousands of positive and very funny comments.
